Hi class!!! I hope you liked watching the movie as much as I did!
Read this interesting info about the movie, taken from:
http://www.lariat.org/AtTheMovies/new/greekwedding.html
"Originally written and performed as a one-woman show by Nia Vardalos, it probably never would have been made into a movie had it not been for one particular Greek woman in the audience, Rita Wilson, who just happens to be married to a guy with some clout in the industry, Tom Hanks. Rita and Tom liked the stage show and thought it ought to be made into a movie. They not only had the good sense to make it into a movie (using Hanks' own production company), but they kept Vardalos as the lead actress. Smart move. Vardalos is a gifted actress, adept at both drama and physical comedy. She is also pretty, although not the usual Hollywood leading lady type."
Now, here's a few aspects of the movie for you to think about. We'll talk about them in class next week (Tuesday 14)
1- Theme/s the movie deals with.
2- Character analysis.
3- Personal comments about the movie.
Go online and look for a review of the movie. Publish it (giving the source) and comment on why you agree or disagree with it. Deadline: Tuesday 14.

Hello!
ResponderEliminarThe movie review I’ve chosen is a review written by Susan Granger: http://celebritywonder.ugo.com/movie/2002_My_Big_Fat_Greek_Wedding_susan_granger.html
I think that “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” is a great movie. In my opinion, what the review said about “the Portokalos family could also be Italian, Irish, Hispanic or Jewish” is true because, as we said the other day in class, some of our families usually behave in the same way when we get together. We are noisy and loud just as Tula’s family.
Besides, I really like Tula’s line: "The family will always be a big part of who you are, but don't let it limit who you become", and I agree with it too… My family is very important to me but that doesn’t mean that they are going to be the only good thing in my life.
Well, that’s all.
See you in class!
Hi everybody!
ResponderEliminarThis is the link of the film review that I have chosen which was written by Jamie Russell: http://www.bbc.co.uk/films/2002/09/09/my_big_fat_greek_wedding_2002_review.shtml
First of all, I liked this review because it’s very precise. I agree with it when the writer says that "My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a feel-good romantic comedy with a wonderful sense of humour”, because if I would have to choose words to describe the film, I would say that it is very romantic and funny, and it includes several humorous scenes.
I also agree with this idea: “It's impossible to imagine anyone else in the role of the downtrodden daughter who breaks out of the smothering confines of her family and gets her own life”. I think that Nia Vardalos is a very good actress who performed the role of Toula in an excellent way. If someone hasn’t seen the film yet and you would tell him the story, I believe that he would imagine Toula just the way she is in the film.
Finally, it seems to me that when the writer says that the rest of the characters in the movie (e.g. Toula’s mother and father) make the film better, he is right, because these characters make the film even more funny and enjoyable for the audience.
Hi Liliana and girls, time to discuss what we think about this grrrrreat movie!!I have chosen a review written by Steve Rhodes and here you have the link:http://www.all-reviews.com/videos-4/my-big-fat-greek-wedding-2.htm
ResponderEliminarConcerning this review, i would like to say that I agree with it in the sense that it is true what Toula says:"my family is big and loud, but they are my family and they will always be there".We all have very different families and even if we don´t think or behave in the same way as your memmbers of our family, they love and support us even in the most difficult moments.
As regards paragraph two and three of the review, I agree with them because what happens before and after toula meets Ian gave us an optimistic point of view about love and change. As she starts wearing contacts, lipstick,a different hair style and make up,her life starts shining all of a sudden and she becomes much more determined and confident.
As far as paragraph four is concerned,to be honest, I would have never realized that while gus told Toula "you look so old",in fact he was the old in the family because his reccommendation was out of date, unfashionable, the one about the common Greek life:to marry a Greek boy, have kids and feed them until they die.Even though it is a contradiction for Gus, it is true.
As a conclusion, the movie is interesting, funny and at the same time deals with serious topics such as the concept of love, beauty, discrimination, goals and ambitions in life.
That was all!see you on Tuesday in class and keep enjoying yourselves despite the weather!!
Hi everybody. The review I chose was written by James Berardinelli and here is the link

Well, I agree with this review because this film is different to the traditional romantic comedies, because it is not only romantic but also consistently funny.
It is true, as we have agreed in class that many of the characteristics of the Portokalos family are similar to our own families.
Finally, as the writer says it is a production to be appreciated for its likability and humor and that's why I really enjoyed the movie.
Hello Hello Hello people!!!
ResponderEliminarI choose this review: http://www.talktalk.co.uk/entertainment/film/review/films/my-big-fat-greek-wedding/356
I choose this review because it put some attention in the fact that Toula, in a way, made her own destiny by defy her traditional family. What’s more, as I generally don’t like romantic movies with happy endings, what I most enjoyed in t his movie were the funny scenes where the family celebrates EVERYTHING! Just as the writer of this review does. He also says the movie is full of energy and it’s transmitted by the actors. They made an excellent job.
As the writer of this review says at the end: “If only all weddings could be this entertaining”
Hi class!!! Good reviews and comments so far. Keep posting!

ResponderEliminarHello everybody! How are you? I have chosen this review: http://celebritywonder.ugo.com/movie/2002_My_Big_Fat_Greek_Wedding_kelsey_wyatt.html
This review was written by Kelsey Wyatt. I have chosen it because I agree with the idea that “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” is a cute, nice, heartwarming and funny movie. From my point of view, what the review says about Michael Constantine (Gus) is completely true since he has one of the most entertaining roles in the film. I also agree with the idea that “Vardalos followed a very classic structure for her romantic comedy and that her dialogue simply made the film”.
See you soon!!! Luci…
