MY BIG FAT GRRRRRRREEK WEDDING

Hi class!!! I'm having a lot of fun with the movie and I hope you're enjoying it too. In last night's scene we watched Mr Portokalo's reaction to his children's initiative. I'm sure we've all experienced joy when an idea of ours was accepted and disappointment when it was rejected or not taken into account. I invite you to reflect upon the topic. You may want to share with the rest of us a recollection you have about it or may be you would like to expand on the importance of boosting people's initiative and how to do it... Write!!!!

  1. Hi! I'm having a lot of fun with the movie too.

I've experienced joy when an idea of mine was accepted, and of course, disappointment when it was not taken into account.
It's really nice to have the support of others when I have a new idea or when I want to do something different. It really motivates me and it increases my self-steem.
On the contrary, when I suggest to do or change something and my ideas are rejected I feel really sad and all my enthisiasm is lost.

It's important to boost people's initiatives and support them. We can do it listening to their suggestions and giving pieces of advice in order to help them and to make them feel that they are providing good ideas and encouriging them to continue doing that.

  2. Hi again!
Wow! the movie is turning more and more interesting and funny every time I watch it.I think at some point all of us feel identified with some of its situations.
Well talking about initiatives, whenever I have a plan or idea to start doing something I have most times shared it with my family and my closest friends in order to ask them if this is right, what the pros and cons are because maybe you will need the other’s perspective and a fresh mind and many times older people are wiser than you are. As Toula I consider my family’s approval very important. I’ve always been challenged to make my own decisions and finish everything I do and one great example of that is to study this career.

  3. Hello people! Sincerely, at first I thought that I wouldn´t like the movie, but then, when we started analyzing every single aspect of it, I started enjoying it!  But the topic here is not the film so let´s talk about experiencing joy or disappointment when our initiatives are accepted or rejected.
In my case, when a new idea or plan comes up to my mind and I share it with my family or friends, I, luckily, find support and motivation. They very rarely discourage me to do something I want, they do this only when they know that I’ll make a mistake or when they think it´s a stupid thing (they are right most of the times).
So, I try to do the same with them. I´m a optimistic person, that means that whenever they came to me and tell about their initiatives, I always try to give support, help and motivation because I know that when the people around you are really with you, things are easier.
    Well, I think that´s it… bye!!

  4. Hello everybody!!!
I am having a lot of fun with the movie!!!
Considering this task what I want to say is that I am not this kind of person who “loves” taking the initiative in order to do something different but when I decide to do it, the first thing I prefer to do is to talk with some member of my family, with my boyfriend or with a friend so as to know what they think or believe about it. For me, it is really important to consider other people´s opinions so as to know what they sincerely believe is the correct thing to do. Sometimes it happens to me that when I talk to them they make me realize that there are some others alternatives which are better than the ones I have chosen.

I try to do the same with my friends (or family) when they decide to take an important decision in their lives or when they are in a quandary and they do not know what to do or how to react. I am not an optimistic person but when I have to give an advice to someone I try to be the most positive person in the world!!!! :)

    See you soon!!!!! Luci

  5. Hi everyone!
I'm having a great time watching the movie. I've already seen it some years ago but I like the way in which we're dealing with it; I like how we are taking into account every single detail.
Well, taking into account the questions, I think we all have dreams, that's why we should pay attention to other people's dreams and try to motivate these people to fulfill them. We shouldn't ,for example, think our dreams are more important than other people's dreams.
Generally, my familiy supports all the decisons I take, but is very frustrating when you don't get the approval you're looking for. However, I keep on insisting until they finally accept it.

    See you next week!

  6. Hi everybody!I´m enjoying the movie and having a lot of time watching it!!(as last year when we watched "The Mirror has Two Faces"). I like the way in wich we are dealing with the topics, the discussions we have in class which are both funny and serious also.
Taking into account Liliana´s question, I believe that boosting people´s initiatives is very important. We should motivate friends, relatives to fulfil their dreams and not just being pessimistic or simply rejecting ideas. As Mr. portokalo did not pay attention to Toula´s idea of going to university, we have clearly seen that she ended up being frustrated, devastated.
Considering my personal experiences, my family is the one who supports me when I want to do something and besides I sometimes I ask to my friends for pieces of advice. That makes me feel more confident and at the same time helpful if they come to me for some kind of encouragemnt, this is the reason why I don´t despise other people´s dreams or initiatives.
Well, that´s all for today, see you tomorrow in class, bye!!

  7. For me, supporting other people is really important. But something very important too is to be realistic. It's hard. But otherwise people could feel dissapointed and even get angry with us. In those cases (us some of u've already said) it's important to encourage them to look for new alternatives.
Mainly in childhood, children need to be supported and encouraged. In that way, they'll feel confident and they'll have the courage to try and try no matter how hard things could be.
In my case, my family has always supported me a lot. They trust on me and try to help me with everything. Sometimes it's difficult because I'm much younger than them and it's hard for them to understand me. But they believe in me and they want me to be happy, so they arealways tehre for me and my crazy ideas :P

  8. Hi!!!! Of course I really feel happy when my ideas are listened to and taken into account. But I know that this is not always possible. Sometimes we want to do something that is not the best choice for us and we feel so excited about it that we cannot consider things clearly. So for me it is really important to have someone to help me see the both sides of the issue, the pros and cons. That is what I do, for I always ask my family what they think about something I want to do. In Toula´s case although his father does not listen to her, she has her mother who motivates her and tries to do something about her daughter´s dreams by confronting his husband.

  9. Hi! Well, I agree with the fact that when our ideas are accepted, we feel happy; but when they are rejected or not taken into account, we feel very bad and disappointed.
I believe that we are all important as human beings and because of this, our ideas and projects have to be valued. We don't have to think that our ideas or thoughts are better than others, they are all equal.
It seems to me that taking into account other people's ideas is great, because it helps boosting their self-esteem and self-confidence.

  10. Hi! How are you?
I agree with most of my classmates… In the one hand, I feel really motivated and encouraged in those occasions when I suggest an idea and everybody approve it. On the other hand, it is very disillusioning when someone doesn’t accept my suggestions. I think that I’m really lucky, because my family and friends are very supportive.
In my opinion, boosting people’s initiative is very important because you let the person know that you support and encourage his or her ideas. I always try to do it by listening to them and helping in their execution. But it’s also essential to be honest and to give a good a reasonable piece of advice if you think that these people’s ideas will not work out.
Well, that’s all! See you in class!
    Bye

  11. Hi class!!! It seems to me almost everybody agrees on their opinion about the topic. It's really good to see that in general you all feel you have your family's support. They are definitely the people who will stand by us all the way.
