A little bit about you!

Hi class!!!

We've discussed the term "self-starter". Do you consider yourself one? What kind of person are you when it comes to working, whether it is in a regular job or as a student?

It will be good to get to know a little bit more about you!

Looking forward to reading your comments!

  1. Hi everybody!
I do consider myself a self-starter. I like being independent and I think teaching is in a way an independent job. It implies a lot of responsabilities but a lot of satisfactions as well! For me, my job is very serious and I do my best to get good results. As a student, I know we need to take advantage of our classes because that's the only way to improve and I am not afraid of asking a partner or my teacher if I do not undersatnd something. I prefer to study alone because I talk to myself while I study.
    Kisses!!!

  2. Hi people. well i think as Noe does, because teaching is a way of working independently, and you can do and develop your job. I like working without constant supervision, especially if the boss is bossy or pushy, and when i start doing something, I like doing it well and finishing it though I recognize sometimes I need other´s help or advice...

  3. Hello everyone! I don’t consider myself a self-starter person, but I share some characteristics with this kind of people.
On the one hand, I usually feel very frustrated when I have to work with constant supervision. So, as Noelia said, teaching is a very good option in my case, because you can work mainly in an independent way. And, I usually take the initiative in order to improve or to get what I am looking for, when I am really interested in something.
On the other hand, although I’m generally a hard working person, I feel that I don’t have the confidence I need, and sometime it hard for me to admit that I need a piece of advice.
    OK. That’s all for now…
I see you all in class. Bye!

  4. Hi everybody! I consider myself a half self starter person. On the one hand, when working is involved, I like doing the things by myself. I work as a bartender in the bowling on Thursdays and I try to do all the work without looking for help (the job not only deals with serving drinks, but also with preparing the counter, counting the bottles, writing the drinks left when the night ends, make the turns for people to play bowling, etc). I don´t like to be supervised, and when my boss is looking at me, I, most of the times, feel nervous and make a mistake jaja. Besides, I give school support in the C.T.A (Confederación de Trabajadores Argentinos) to some primary and secondary students and there I also try to do my best looking for the solutions by myself. However, It doesn´t mean that I never ask questions or ask for pieces of advice! I do need instructions and sometimes I need others to repeat them.
On the other hand, when I have to work in my house, I need special supervision because I only do the job, I don´t develop it, and I need my mum to be behind me telling what to do and how to do it. Jaja..
    Well, that´s it! See you!

  5. Hello everybody!I hope all of you have enjoyed the last weekend and I did!
Now,let´s talk a llitle bit about this term we have already discussed in class. When it comes to working or studying, I consider myself a self-starter.For example, when I am studying I like to decide what I´m going to study, how much time I will spend studying, when I should start and also when to finish. Besides,I feel that I can motivate myself to achieve what I want, despite the several difficulties that may come up.
On the other hand, I have not worked so far.As I don´t have any experiences in working, I suppose I wouldn´t hate being supervised because what I lack is experience.I don´t consider supervision a constraint on me.To have somebody who offers you help and tells you how o do things and when to do it can be an advantage. However, I couldn´t put up with bossy people at work.
Well, that´s all for today.I expect to read the other girl´s comments!

  6. Hi Noelia! Yes, you sound like a self-starter!!
It's true what you say about teaching involving a lot of responsibilities but also giving you a lot of satisfaction. You need to be pretty active if you want to be a good and creative teacher. Keep working hard and I'm sure you'll become a good teaching professional.

  7. Vero, teaching is a good profession for people who like to be quite independent. Even though you have to comply to certain rules, teaching gives a lot of freedom to develop your skills and your job.
So glad to read you are on the right track!

  8. Nice reading your comments Fabiola! You do have a clear idea of who you are and what you want in life, and that makes it easier when it comes to deciding your profession. Besides, even when you are a self-starter and self-determined person, you can always profit from people's advice and opinion. Then, it's up to you to decide, but listening to others won't hurt in most cases. Way to go Fabi!

  9. I didn't know you were working as a bar tender Luz. It must certainly be an interesting job and you must meet all sorts of people. Am I right? From what you write I infer it must also be kind of hectic and tiring. But it's fine if you enjoy it! Good for you! Handling people's demands will probably give you a good experience for your future teaching. Keep going!

  10. Cristian,it's great that you enjoyed the week-end. So did I! I had a great time with family and friends. What did you do? Anything special?
Talking about supervision, teaching is a career in which you will probably get some supervision and lots of opportunities to develop your creativity. You will be able to expand as a person and establish relationships with all kinds of students. That is very rewarding, believe me. I'm sure you will enjoy working at schools or private english institutions. Keep doing your best!

  11. Hi! As Fabiola, I'm not a self starter but I do share some characteristics with them. I don't like working alone or being in charge of everything. I like t have someone with me dissscusing every single decission. I'm not talking of a boss because sometimes bosses are "bossy" and that creates a a dificult atmosphere. But I like working with a partner or, in the case of teaching, with studentes.
In Infancia Misionera (the group I'm in charge)I work with two other girls although I always have the last word :P That's because I'm more prepared than them and I'm being part of the group for a very very long time hahhaha (I'll be ten years soon). But all the time we're asking the kids and teens what THEY'd like to do and in which way. Taking that into account with ask permission to our priest and then we prepare the activities. It's very nice way of woking and I feel very confortable. I know that I could do all by myself because I know I'm well prepared. But I prefer working with other people. I consider their ideas very valuable.

  12. Well, what a question!
I’m not sure if I’m a self-starter…but I would definitely like to be a good one. I don’t know…, sometimes I’m rather insecure if somebody tells me: “Ok, here’s the job, do whatever you want” …In these cases I feel like running away! But after a while of giving it some thought, after thinking about all the things I can do, I find myself doing extraordinary things I had never done before, and I start feeling self-confident again! Is this normal? :O haha!!

    I definitely need a psychologist!

    See u in class people!

  13. Hello everybody!!!! What an interesting question Liliana!!!! It helps me stop for a while and think about what kind of person I am when it comes to studying or working. I think that by answering it we are reconsidering our attitude and maybe we can change for the better. In my case, I always try to be organized and do my duties on time. When I have to sit for an exam I plan the way I will study for it. However, I don´t always come up to my expectations, and as a result, I have to build up my confidence again by cheering me up: “come on, you can do it!” I like studying alone, but I don´t have any problem to ask for help if I don´t understand something. Besides, I don´t feel comfortable when someone is looking at. So I don´t know if I am “the” self-starter person, the important thing is that I do try to be a self-starter student for I always do my best and work really hard.

  14. Hello everybody!!! How are you?
Well, I consider myself a self-starter person in my job and as a student too.On the one hand, nowadays I have the great opportunity to work independently (this means that I do not have a bossy or pushy person next to me who is all the time telling me what and how to do things) and this allows me to be creative and innovative. On the other hand, when I started studying I prefered to do it alone but now I realize that sharing my opinions with my friends is really helpful for me.
Have a nice weekend!!! See you soon.Luci...

  15. HI!!! I wanted to erase my previous commentary but I didn´t know how to do it!!! :( I am here again because I read it and I think that it is not clear enough. What I wanted to say previously is that I love being independent as well as setting my own goals and deadlines. Taking into account these characteristics I consider myself a self-starter person!!!
    That´s all!!! See you!!!

  17. Hi!!
I consider myself a self-starter because when I work I prefer advice rather than supervision. If a person is supervising me I become nervous and make mistakes. And as a self-starter person I motivate myself to achieve results.
When I study I like to have control over what I do and when I do it; I organize my day and which time of it I'll spend studying.

  18. Alejandra, even though you say you are not a self-starter, you certainly have experience in leading groups! I agree with you on the fact that team work is very profitable. I'd rather have someone to discuss my ideas with than not. You seem a very busy person. What religion do you belong to?

  19. Hi Celina!! wow! you don't seem an insecure person to me! I guess what you describe happens to many people. At least you know by now that when you set your heart and mind to it, you can create incredible things. And that is something! You know you can trust yourself!!! Go for it!

  20. Sofi, after many years in this profession I know that people who get better results in the end are the ones who persevere in spite of the difficulties and hurdles! The important point is to try to the best of your abilities. I also know you are an organized students but you are also a wife and a mother, and that sometimes may ruin almost every plan!!! Isn't it so? ja ja
keep working hard and you'll get there, whether you consider yourself a self-starter or not.

  21. Lucila, I am glad to read you have started to appreciate the worth of studying in a group or at least of sharing thoughts with others.
It's great that you have the chance to develop your creativity and become a self-starter worker. Are you working in the teaching profession or are you doing something else?
    Way to go!

  23. Hi! Well, I consider myself a self-started because I like to have control over what I do. I prefer to organize the activities or work that I have to do on my own, considering the time and in which way I'm going to work. In spite of this, I like to be given some pieces of advice from the teacher or from my classmates.

    See you!
